Pond is pleased to announce and welcome Mitch Rovinsky as its new Operations Manager, for Pond Constructors.
In a career that spans more than 27 years in construction management for private and government clients, Rovinsky worked his way up from engineer to project manager at a private construction firm, then with the state of Georgia’s Finance and Investment Commission managing several higher education construction projects, with large budgets and multiple project managers.
Much of Rovinsky’s previous work can be seen while watching NCAA football games on a Saturday afternoon. Before accepting the position with Pond, he worked with a private architectural and engineering firm that included him managing the construction of a new end-zone area for Florida State University, additions to the stadium at University of Louisville, Eastern Kentucky University, Georgia Southern University, and constructing a 5,000-seat NCAA regulation gymnasium/natatorium for Fort Valley State University.
“It’s amazing how many stadium projects I have managed and been a part of throughout my career thus far, and my very first sports related construction project was a baptism by fire on learning how to use my people skills and analytical skills to keep the project going and finished before the deadline,” Rovinsky said.
The first project he was handed, on the first week of his employment with the Georgia State Finance and Investment Commission, was the Fort Valley University Health and Physical Education building—NCAA regulation gym—which was grossly over budget and only 50 percent of the job was even close to finish.
“For a project that was supposed to be only two or three months from completion, turned into a year and half job. That was my first true test on a large-scale government contract,” he said. “I managed the project, and four other projects at the same time, and it prepared me for moving on to the private company as a senior project manager, and it brought me to where I am now with Pond.”
“Through those professional friendships forged with Pond employees, it was clear to me that the feeling that I got about Pond is that it is about camaraderie—and everyone was working for a mutual goal to better the company,” he emphasized.
Rovinsky made the same impression upon Pond as well.
“Having met Mitch almost 10 years ago on a large municipal project we worked together on, he impressed me immediately with his knowledge of construction management and shortly thereafter with his people skills,” said Program Manager Sam Smith. “Mitch has excellent vision for strategic goals and the skill set to lead his team there.”
With his expert construction management skills, combined with a highly analytical acumen for numbers—Rovinsky graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a minor in Physics from the University of Alabama—Rovinsky is eager to make Pond Constructors even more profitable and visible.
“With my unique job experience with construction management, managing up to 20 or 30 subcontractors, along with my cost estimating and budget management, I know I can assist the current Pond team in building the general construction business,” he said.
“It’s my job to harness that passion and guide them on the bigger aspects of general construction management, so that they can be adept with all of the project management skills that dominate the 21st century in our business.”
Fairbanks International Airport Baggage Transport Conveyor Enhanced With Mod Drive™ System
Airports face a host of unique industry challenges, such as meeting efficiency regulations and seeking out the best maintenance practices to reduce costs and keep operations flowing. In today’s current economic climate, any potential cost savings can go a long way.
In 2019, Alaska’s Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) sought to modernize its equipment and operations. They were dissatisfied with the performance of the gearmotors on their baggage transport conveyors and began searching for new suppliers. Regal approached FAI with a solution that could improve equipment performance and simplify maintenance, with the added benefit of energy cost savings: the Hub City® MOD Drive™ system.
