Waterloo Region, ON – The Region of Waterloo International Airport and Aviation Fun Day organizing committee would like thank everyone who volunteered their time, aircraft and expertise to make our 2nd annual event a success!
“I am proud of how the airport community has come together to turn this idea into such a fantastic event,” said Chris Wood, General Manager of the Region of Waterloo International Airport. “Aviation Fun Day gives our community a chance to explore their local airport and our goal is to inspire the next generation of aviation enthusiasts. I’d like to thank everyone who contributed their time along with the estimated 4,600 members of the community that came out to enjoy the event and support our local food banks.”
In lieu of an admission fee, donations were accepted for the Cambridge Self Help Food Bank and The Food Bank of Waterloo Region. In total 1,526 pounds of food and $3,490 dollars in cash was collected! The total includes funds collected onsite, a donation from Great Lakes Helicopter, an honorarium provided on behalf of WestJet and Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre’s silent auction which raised $1,840.
“What a great event and it couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Wendi Campbell, Executive Director of The Food Bank of Waterloo Region. “Summer is a difficult time for food banks. While many of us are able to enjoy time off and get away one in 20 households are struggling to put food on the table and food banks are struggling to keep food on the shelves. Donations raised at Aviation Fun Day will help us continue to serve the emergency food hamper, community meal and shelter programs depending on us. Thank you to all the Aviation Fun Day organizers, volunteers and the wonderful aviation enthusiasts for their generous support.”
Airport employees and tenants including Canadian Owners and Pilots Association Flight 26, Flite Line Services, Great Lakes Helicopter, Recreational Aircraft Association of Canada, Royal Canadian Air Cadet Youth Development Centre and the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre worked together to create Aviation Fun Day, an event geared toward providing Waterloo Region with a behind-the-scenes look at the aviation industry. The event was held on Saturday August 20 at the Region of Waterloo International Airport.
“We at the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank truly appreciate all the support received during Aviation Fun Day” said Pat Singleton, Executive Director for the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank. “The food and monetary donations collected will go a long way in helping us provide much needed food items as children return to school and we prepare for an increase of those using our Food Bank this fall.”
In addition to the Aviation Fun Day festivities, Run Waterloo’s 2nd Annual Runway Run attracted 127 participants and took place on the airport’s primary runway earlier the same morning. Organizers are already working on ideas for next year.
Fairbanks International Airport Baggage Transport Conveyor Enhanced With Mod Drive™ System
Airports face a host of unique industry challenges, such as meeting efficiency regulations and seeking out the best maintenance practices to reduce costs and keep operations flowing. In today’s current economic climate, any potential cost savings can go a long way.
In 2019, Alaska’s Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) sought to modernize its equipment and operations. They were dissatisfied with the performance of the gearmotors on their baggage transport conveyors and began searching for new suppliers. Regal approached FAI with a solution that could improve equipment performance and simplify maintenance, with the added benefit of energy cost savings: the Hub City® MOD Drive™ system.
