CHICAGO, November 28, 2017 - Great news for O'Hare travelers! American Airlines today announced it will begin service next year from Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) to five new destinations including Calgary, Vancouver, Bangor, Charleston and Myrtle Beach. These destinations are in addition to the airline's previously announced new service to Venice, Italy (VCE), which begins in May 2018.
"2018 is shaping up to be a banner year for O'Hare International Airport as we work with our airline partners to expand Chicago's connectivity to the world," said Ginger S. Evans, Commissioner, Chicago Department of Aviation. "I want to thank American Airlines for continuing to add service between Chicago and popular destinations around the world, creating new opportunities for business and tourism."
Summary of new service:
Earlier this year, American launched new service from ORD to more than 10 new destinations, including Barcelona, Spain (BCN). Additionally, American recently debuted a brand new 17,000 square foot Flagship Lounge at ORD along with opening a renovated Admiral's Club.
In addition to growing its schedule, the airline will also grow its footprint at ORD in 2018. American is in the process of building five new gates off of the L Concourse at Terminal 3, the first new gates to be built at the airport in more than 20 years. Those gates are slated to open in the spring. American also is slated to open a new hangar and auto shop facility at ORD by the end of 2018.
From ORD, American operates more than 481 daily nonstop flights to nearly 130 destinations around the world including China, Europe and Japan. In 2016, American carried nearly 27 million passengers through Chicago O'Hare.
