The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 772,062 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in February, a one-percent increase from February 2017. Passenger boardings were up one percent, with a total of 387,295 boarded. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 1,584,040, up 2.1 percent. Year-to-date passenger boardings are 793,044, up 2.3 percent.
“February’s passenger increase reflects our airline partners’ decision to grow their schedules at KCI,” said Kansas City Director of Aviation Pat Klein. “Last month we were especially pleased to welcome Vacation Express, our newest airline, and celebrate the launch of nonstop service to Punta Cana.”
Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up 2.0 percent in February with a total of 15.8 million pounds handled. Year to date, 32.6 million pounds have been handled, up 2.0 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during February amounted to 15.2 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year increase of one percent. Year to date, air freight is up 1.6 percent with a total of 31.2 million pounds handled. Air mail for February was up 43.4 percent from February 2017 with 631,320 pounds handled. Air mail is up 14.2 percent year to date with 1.4 million pounds handled.
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for February 2018 was 166. Service was offered to 48 nonstop markets. There was an average of 37,691 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported 5 daily departures for February.
