July 13, 2023 Scott B. Fuller announced his retirement from the day to day management of Gulf Shores International Airport effective November 1 of this year. Fuller has offered to stay on as Executive Emeritus with the Airport Authority until completion of the current airline terminal project and institution of new air service. Gulf Shores International recently completed a multiyear process to convert from a busy general aviation to a fully certified Part 139 Airport.
2023 will mark 50 years in aviation for Mr. Fuller with FBOs, airlines and 40 + years in airport management. Mr. Fuller has served as Manager of Business Development of Pan Am World Services, CEO of Airport Technologies, Inc., COO of American Airports Corporation among st multiple positions with Authorities , cities, and counties as Airport Director. With an extensive history in the development of airports, Mr. Fuller was certified by the International Civil Aviation Organization arm of the United Nations as one of their airport operations experts in 2005. Mr. Fuller is also listed in the 75th edition of Maquis’ Whos Who in America for contributions to the aviation industry.
Some of his most memorable experiences were being able to cull an entire airport operation to include Manager, Operations, Navaids, and ARFF departments, from existing employees and taking a closed Midway Island to a fully certified 139 airport within 2 hours of arrival on the island , reestablishing ET OPS routes through that part of the pacific. Another was refusing the FAA s proposal to be the first certified MLS new runway in the country at Gwinnett County, GA and being instrumental in re starting the Instrument Landing System Program
“Surprisingly I was well on my way in aviation before knowing that my family had a history including owning one of the first airports in Florida, the Piper/Fuller airport in St. Pete. to my father having been a commercial pilot for the CAA and responsible for the construction of the first VOR in the Southeast" Mr. Fuller remarked.
