Syracuse, New York –The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) announced today the receipt of a $20 million award for terminal updates and expansion at Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR). The funding is specifically tied to two projects at SYR – essential upgrades to the airport’s Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Federal Inspection Station (FIS) as well as enhancement and expansion of the airport’s north concourse (Terminal B).
The award was announced by New York Governor Kathy Hochul as part of the state’s Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Competition earlier today. The program – which features $230 million in awards – aims to promote, revitalize, and accelerate investments in commercial passenger service airports in Upstate New York.
“The SRAA is incredibly grateful to receive this $20 million award,” said SRAA Executive Director Jason Terreri. “As post-pandemic travel growth outpaces nearly all expectations, the projects funded by this grant will help ensure SYR is not only the international gateway to Central New York and beyond, but also positioned to meet the demands of future growth in the region.”
Upgrades to the FIS will bring the inspection station in line with state-of-the-art standards and enhance the airport’s ability to process international passenger and cargo flights. The enhancements to and expansion of the north concourse (Terminal B) will provide an additional 4,700 square feet to improve passenger flow, increase passenger seating, and increase concession space and offerings. Both the FIS and north concourse enhancements will greatly enhance the customer experience at SYR.
